If I run a media company, I don’t want my reporters tweeting that day’s lineup or merely passing along press releases. I want my people to be offering opinion and critical thinking. Tell the readers what the lineup means and what the news release means.
@craigcalcaterra’s blog post about Mark Cuban’s comments about media (who, coincidentally, posts a comment later). I wish our beat writers got this. Every blogger gets the lineup, and I’d never ever post it. There is no value to 50 people tweeting the same thing with no analysis or commentary. The answer I always get when I say that is “well their editors expect them to” and that’s why newspapers are in trouble, if that’s actually true. Very few exceptions to this rule.
